Meizu CEO Jack Wong: Oh hey, the new iPod touch ‘looks a bit like the M9II’

Should there be an international award for Cheekiest Man of the Year, it’d have to go to Meizu’s shameless Jack Wong . Shortly after Apple’s keynote last week, the CEO of KIRFdom seized the opportunity to cry foul on the new iPod touch , claiming it “looks a bit like” his forthcoming M9II Android phone, as pictured above. Wait, M9II? Turns out even though the M9 has yet to materialize in early October, Mr. Wong already has an enhanced model to be brought forth by his faithful unicorns

Orange HD Voice service and handsets go live in the UK, we go ears-on (video)

Good news for UK mobile addicts: Orange’s long-anticipated HD Voice service has officially made it to the Land of Hope and Glory. Starting today, British customers can pick up a HD Voice-enabled handset — including the Nokia 5230 , X6 , E5 and Samsung Omnia Pro at launch — from Orange, and start buttering their ears with “crystal clear” phone calls while within the carrier’s 3G coverage. Prior to the launch, we were fortunate enough to try out the new service on a couple of Nokia E5 prototypes, and boy, that was some pretty impressive stuff there — the wider speech bandwidth really added a lot of clarity to the caller’s voice, and additionally, the noisy traffic from the caller’s end was well suppressed at where it’d otherwise crackle over a normal call. Perhaps the easiest way to put it is that this is much like jumping from a bad FM radio broadcast to some sweet CD audio, thus making conversations a lot easier to interpret, even if the recipient is in a noisy environment or has hearing problem (as proven by Orange’s public trial). Jabra Stone to bring ‘new shape’ to Bluetooth headset field

Jabra, who has definitely done a thing or two for the Bluetooth headset realm, is apparently looking to reveal a “new shape” on October 20th, though it’ll only be sold through AT&T (at least initially). Heck, there’s even a countdown timer over on the outfit’s teaser page for those who’d like to watch every second from now till then tick away, not to mention a brief video that tersely details the forthcoming excellence

Official: XPERIA X2 launching Q4, Windows Mobile 6.5 onboard (video)

News has just broken that the re-styled, gutted refresh of Sony Ericsson’s popular (and expensive) X1 is due to hit “selected markets” in Q4. According to a post on SE’s Xperiancers blog, the company is in talks with various carries right now, and will be detailing the plans in the coming weeks. Additionally, the blog delivers some info on the device itself, calling out its 8.1 megapixel camera, inclusion of a standard 4GB microSD card, and 13 pre-loaded “panels” in its reworked Windows Mobile skin (which appears to have a new SDK for the forthcoming OS update). Oh, and speaking of Windows Mobile, it’ll be shipping with 6.5 onboard
