Thanko has given us much joy over the years, from e-cigarettes to necktie / spy cameras . But the Bluetooth Headset Wristwatch? Hell, this one looks almost useful: your watch can be popped out of the wristband to do double duty as a Bluetooth earpiece. Charging for two hours via USB will give you around four hours of operation, depending on whether you’re using it to make calls or listen to music. Available in Japan for roughly $90

Turns out that leak we saw of the Jawbone Icon was for real after all, but it was only one of the six designs straight out of Aliph’s oven: (clockwise from top left) The Thinker , The Rogue , The Hero , The Ace , The Catch and — our favorite — The Bombshell . While these are the smallest and lightest Jawbones ever, Aliph has managed to cram in an allegedly improved NoiseAssassin and simultaneous dual-phone linkage, along with an onboard ‘AudioApp’ which vocally broadcasts battery level and caller ID. If you prefer a visual indication, the Icon also does a battery gauge on the iPhone — a first on a non- Apple Bluetooth headset — and apparently “Apple’s aware of this” so a firmware update shouldn’t kill this Palm Pre-style . We’re digging the MyTALK website — currently in beta — where you can pick and install other AudioApps and DialApps (for the multifunction button; e.g

We know the rule of thumb is to not trust everything on Craigslist, but when an unreleased refresh of the cool-looking Jawbone Bluetooth headset pops up for sale, it’d be wrong to ignore it. HTCPedia managed to get cozy with Mr. Blurrycam and got a few shots of the supposedly forthcoming Jawbone Icon, which appears to don the same skin pattern as the Jawbone Prime but in a form factor similar to the original Jawbone — quite an odd decision so we remain skeptical, but it’d be a welcoming addition for the market nevertheless. A couple of close-up shots after the break. [Thanks, Brian!] Continue reading Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset leaked on Craigslist

Who says tree-hugging has to be boring? Actually, Sony Ericsson’s latest sets to join the eco-friendly GreenHeart line aren’t anything special, but at least they don’t slouch in the specs department — both the Hazel slider and Elm candybar announced today feature 5 megapixel cams, GPS with geotagging, LED flashes, and dual-band HSPA on top of quadband EDGE. The real news, though, might be the introduction of SE’s very first GreenHeart accessory — the VH700 stereo Bluetooth headset — which ponies up dual mics for improved call quality and micro-USB recharging. It’ll hit in the first quarter of the year along with the Elm; the Hazel follows on in the second quarter

Filed under: Accessories Some products require no explanation. Take this “Unique Banana Shaped Bluetooth Handset,” for example — either you get it or you don’t, but no amount of marketing, advertising, or sweet-talking is going to get a skeptic to appreciate its brilliance. If you’re still reading this, maybe — just maybe — you fall into the “I need this, particularly at just $17.70″ camp, and for you, take heart in the knowledge that you can be just 2 to 5 business days away from talking on a simulated piece of fruit that’s connected to your phone via Class 2 Bluetooth 2.0. When’s the last time you heard “standby time” quoted for a banana, anyway?

Filed under: Peripherals , Others C’mon, cut us some slack here. We’re suckers for teasers, and our intuition says that you are too. Jabra, who has definitely done a thing or two for the Bluetooth headset realm, is apparently looking to reveal a “new shape” on October 20th, though it’ll only be sold through AT&T (at least initially). Heck, there’s even a countdown timer over on the outfit’s teaser page for those who’d like to watch every second from now till then tick away, not to mention a brief video that tersely details the forthcoming excellence

Filed under: Peripherals , Apple Itching to command your iPhone 3GS via voice control , yet aren’t willing to wrap one more cable around your precious dome? Your wildest dreams could possibly come true next month, when BudsGoBlue launches an iPhone-friendly set of Bluetooth earbuds that should act as headphones and a BT headset. We’re hearing that the loops on each earpiece are “completely flexible,” and judging by the teaser video hosted up just after the break, they look fairly seductive, too. Hop on down and have a peek for yourself, won’t you? Filed under: Others , Accessories Generally speaking, you’re trying to keep the jackhammers, trains, horns, and loudmouths that pollute the world’s airspace out of your head while you’re holding that conference call and walking back to the office from lunch at the same time — but Sound ID’s new 400 model takes a different approach. The upcoming Bluetooth headset has a couple unique features that set it apart from the crowd, the first being its so-called “Environmental Mode” — shared with other Sound ID models — which allows for two-ear hearing between phone calls without going to the trouble of taking the set out of your ear (the people around you might fancy you a dork, but they just don’t get it, and they never will). The other biggie is compatibility with the company’s not-yet-released Companion Link remote mic, which allows a second person to join into the conversation or simply repeats audio back to the 400. Look for the set to hit shelves in the fourth quarter for $129.99, with the Companion Link tagging along for $79.99. Filed under: Peripherals Finding a headset that can match the overwhelming pretension exuded by your multi-thousand-dollar TAG Heuer Meridiist can be a daunting challenge; pairing it up with your old Vertu (which was just a Jabra clone, anyhow) would be an embarrassing faux pas to say the least, and a Jawbone Prime can’t physically fit enough diamonds to accurately express your expertly-honed sense of luxurious style. No worries, though: your favorite watchmaker has crafted just the piece for you, combining a totally ordinary-looking headset with a USB-powered charging base that integrates 4GB of questionably useful storage. Looks like an $80 package to us, but rest assured — whatever the actual price is at launch, it’ll starkly remind you that you’re wealthy, fancy, and on the cutting edge of cool.

Filed under: Peripherals , Nokia , Misc It didn’t exactly cause that big a stir when it was first announced, but it looks like Nokia’s Music Almighty headset design competition still managed to attract a respectable 6,000 entrants, and Nokia is now showing off the five winners that have been manufactured as fully-functional, one-off headsets. The hook of the contest is that all of the headsets had to be inspired by a song, which expectedly drew a whole range of designs from the stylish Daft Punk “Robot Rock” set above to feat of subtlety that is the R. Kelly “I Believe I Can Fly” headset after the break.
