Samsung Fascinate shows up in Verizon warehouse manifest, destined for September launch? thumbnail

While Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile customers have been enjoying their epic , vibrant and captivating Galaxy S variants for weeks, the only thing fascinating about Verizon’s take on the Samsung smartphone is how long it’s taken to arrive. Come September, however, that’s all liable to change, as a very familiar-looking SCH-I500 has just allegedly appeared in Verizon warehouse databases. Coupled with the fact that the MTV Music Video Awards (airing on September 12th) are now officially sponsored by “Samsung Fascinate a Galaxy S phone” and Verizon Wireless itself, we’re thinking it’s a safe bet that early September will find the 4-inch Super AMOLED handset on store shelves. BlackBerry Bold R020 and 9670 Oxford flip outed? thumbnail

It’s felt almost as if the BlackBerry smartphone rumor mill has been a little too quiet — dare we say burnt out — since the Torch hit the scene ( BlackPad notwithstanding, of course). That’s all changed with a pair of interesting leaks care of Boy Genius Report . Behold a successor to the Bold 9700 , the R020. The tri-band UMTS / quad-band EDGE device is gonna disappoint some with the same 624MHz clockspeed and 2.44-inch 480 x 360 screen, but it does have twice the RAM (512MB), a 5 megapixel camera with AF and flash, and of course runs on BlackBerry 6 .

Motorola-Verizon tablet will have FiOS TV, ten-inch screen? thumbnail

Sure, we’ve heard Verizon discuss Android tablets once or twice , but it’s just now that we’re getting our first real juice about Motorola’s companion device . The Financial Times reports that Verizon and Motorola are teaming up on an Android tablet with dual cameras, Adobe Flash support and a ten-inch screen, plus mobile hotspot functionality (which implies Verizon cellular data) and — get this — access to pay TV. As it so happens, Moto makes a Verizon FiOS set-top box, and sources tell the Times that the television tablet may get grandfathered in to the very same technology.

RIM’s 9.7-inch Blackpad rumored for November launch — yes, Blackpad thumbnail

We were secretly hoping that RIM’s acquisition of the blackpad.com domain name was nothing more than a joke (or a preventative measure, at worse), but it sure sounds as if that’ll be the name the folks in Waterloo go with come this winter. According to unnamed sources who have unloaded new information to Bloomberg , RIM’s first tablet will actually be “introduced in November,” though there’s no clear indication as to when it’ll ship . Said sources have also stated that the device will sport a 9.7-inch display, inbuilt WiFi and Bluetooth, and a downright comical Blackpad label. We get the Black Berry link and all, but really?

RIM takes control of blackpad.com, laughter takes control of our minds thumbnail

A quick WHOIS confirms that RIM’s taken control of blackpad.com — yes, it’s long been rumored as a potential name for the BlackBerry tablet , but we’re certainly hoping Waterloo’s just parking a domain name to keep squatters at bay, because, seriously, we just got over the iPad jokes, you know? P.S.- And might we see whatever this is at the RIM / AT&T event on Tuesday ? Consider our interest piqued. Motorola mini Droid slider caught by Mr. Blurrycam thumbnail

Okay, this one’s a complete and very welcome surprise — some extremely blurry pictures and a quick video of what appears to be a smaller Motorola portrait QWERTY Android slider for Verizon just popped up on the Chinese Hiapk forums — and yes, it’s got the glowing red Droid eye. We’re not sure if that means the Droid line is about to get a smaller midrange sibling or what, but Motorola’s definitely pushing out some of the more interesting Android form factors lately, and this mini Droid certainly fits right in with the Flipout and the Charm . A couple more shots and the video after the break. Continue reading Motorola mini Droid slider caught by Mr. Blurrycam Motorola mini Droid slider caught by Mr.

Verizon FiveSpot CDMA / GSM mobile WiFi hotspot leaks out thumbnail

Looks like Verizon’s about to take its mobile data game worldwide — we just got this snap of the “FiveSpot,” a “global ready” mobile WiFi hotspot . That certainly sounds like a hybrid CDMA / UMTS mobile hotspot to us, which makes sense — Verizon already sells a bunch of world phones with dual CDMA and GSM radios, so a globetrotting riff on the MiFi fits right in. Based on the name, we’d guess this supports five simultaneous users, but that’s a guess.

Zune Pass for UK gets briefly teased, priced? thumbnail

If the above picture is to be believed, it looks like Microsoft’s Zune Pass is gearing up to make its UK debut. An across-the-pond tipster via LiveSide apparently stumbled upon (and was able to successfully score the 14-day trial) a Subscription page with pricing tiers. In addition to the tryout period, there were also options for a £8.99 (about $13.74) one-month pass and £26.97 / $41.23 for three. Further details are just barely hinted at in the sidebar, but if it’s anything like the US progenitor, we’re looking at an all-you-can download music service and ten DRM-free MP3s each month, playable on Windows, Xbox 360 ( soon ), Zune devices (still not available outside US), and Windows Phone 7

RIM’s Blackberry Tablet might be seven inches, feature dual cameras and 1GHz CPU? thumbnail

The rumor mill’s been churning out quite the picture of RIM’s Blackberry tablet over the past several months, and it’s a research analyst who’s most recently picked up the brush — Ashok Kumar of Rodman & Renshaw, to be precise, who anticipates a 7-inch touchscreen device with a 1GHz processor, plus front- and back-facing cameras for video chat. Since that’s a good 1.9 inches smaller than the slate rumored a couple months back, this latest spiel fills us with doubt… but hey, it’s not like we had confirmation that RIM was even producing such a device, anyhow. It may be a while before we find out for sure, as Kumar told investors that even should the company succeed in an attempt to move up the schedule, the device still wouldn’t launch until the end of the year. T-Mobile and HTC to launch first 21Mbps HSPA+ smartphone in September thumbnail

T-Mobile might be busy expanding its we-swear-it’s-like-4G HSPA+ network to all sorts of metro areas in the US, but those theoretical 21Mbps speeds have been limited to those wielding WebConnect Rocket data cards, not any actual phones. It looks like that’s about to change, though: a spokesman for T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom told Light Reading that an HTC-built Android phone capable of HSPA+ speeds will launch in September, followed by another device in the fourth quarter sometime before the holidays. That lines up with what we’ve been hearing, as we’ve been told that the first device will actually be the leaked HTC Vision QWERTY slider (pictured above) that’s been popping up in the wild lately.
